Martial artists to compete at central coastal region tourney
Around 90 martial artists from seven central coastal provinces and cities will compete in the Central Coastal Region Traditional Martial Arts tournament which opens at the Tuyen Son Sports Centre today, July 6.
Athletes are scheduled to compete in 13 men's and women's weight categories of combat and performance events in two days.
Chairman of the city's traditional martial arts federation Nguyen Van Tuan said this was the first time that the tournament has been organised and it was expected to be held annually.
The tournament closes tomorrow.
National women's open cycling event to start tomorrow
The National Women's Open Cycling Tournament is scheduled to kick off in Dong Xoai Town in the southern province of Binh Phuoc tomorrow, July 7.
The event will draw 70 cyclists from nine strong teams nationwide including Ha Noi, HCM City, An Giang Plant Protection, alongside three Kazakhstan, South Korea and Malaysia.
Athletes will compete over six stages for a total prize of VND150 million (US$7,140) until July 12.
Viet Nam bag 27 golds at ASEAN school games
Viet Nam bagged 27 gold, 17 silver and 16 bronzes medals to be placed fourth at the ongoing ASEAN School Games themed "Spirit, Friendship and Excellence", in the Indonesian province of East Java.
Thailand have taken the lead with 38 gold, 28 silver and 46 bronze medals, followed by the hosts Indonesia with 33 golds, 33 silvers and 27 bronzes and Malaysia with 29 golds, 36 silvers and 33 bronzes.
The eight-day event, which sees the participation of nearly 1,400 athletes and officials in 11 events, will finish today.
