Nhat wins fencing gold at Asian champs

Vietnamese fencer Nguyen Tien Nhat battled his way to a gold medal at the Asian Under-23 Fencing Championships.

Nhat, who is the sole representative of Viet Nam in fencing competition at the coming London Olympics, triumphed in the men's epee event. Nhat won the gold medal after four wins and two losses in the championships' qualifying round. He beat a rival from Uzbekistan 15-12 in the final match to secure gold.

Two other Vietnamese fencers were knocked-out in the first stages of the championships.

The tournament for young athletes is continuing in Manila, the Philippines, and has drawn more than 300 participants from 25 countries and territories with the competition ending on Friday.

Viet Nam strike gold at regional shooting event

Viet Nam won a gold medal in the men's slow fire pistol team event with a total of 1,632 points at the ongoing Southeast Asian Shooting Association Championships in Malaysia.

Tran Quoc Cuong also bagged an individual silver medal in the same category with 555 points while teammate To Van Tuyen took home a silver in the junior category with 527 points.

After this tournament, two Vietnamese Olympians, Hoang Xuan Vinh and Nguyen Thi Hoang Ngoc, will head to South Korea on a training course to prepare for the London Olympic Games next month.

Lan wins silver at Asian Youth Champs in Kazakhstan

Duong Thi Lan of Thai Nguyen won a silver medal in the women's 55kg category at the Asian Youth Wrestling Championships that concluded in Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

At the 26th Southeast Asian Games held in Indonesia last November, Lan also took home a silver.
