Young players grab bronze trophy
Viet Nam received a bronze medal at the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy football tournament for under-21 players held in Brunei on Wednesday.
The team, including U-19 members, was eliminated after losing 0-2 to Indonesia in their semi-final match.
Playing without injured captain Ngoc Hai and midfielder Anh Tuan, the team also lost halfback Hoang Lam 10 minutes after kick off when he suffered a twisted ankle.
The shortage of players made scoring and defence difficult.
According to coach Mai Duc Chung, Indonesia proved to be the stronger team, despite Viet Nam showing great progress.
The team will next take part at the Southeast Asian U-19 Football Championships in August.

Jahmar Thorpe, who recently joined the Vietnamese club, led scoring with 24 points while Jonathan Jones contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds alongside John Smith's 12 points and 10 boards. This was their second win after overcoming defending champions Chang Thailand Slammers 60-55 last month.
The team will host Westports Malaysia Dragons at the Tan Binh competition house in HCM City on Sunday.
