Nearly 200 competitors took part in the National Teenagers Weightlifting Championship which started at the National Sports Training Centre in Hà Nội on Thusday.
They competed in two age groups of 13 to 14 and 15 to 16 for both boys and girls in various weight categories.
According to Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, director of Hà Nội based- National Sports Training Centre, it was the first time the event had attracted the most players. It proved that weightlifting movement developed fast across the country.
The event was co-ordinated by the Việt Nam Weightlifting & Bodybuilding Federation and National Sports Training Centre.
It will conclude on April 9.

Cần Thơ cyclists shone in the eighth stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Tournament yesterday.
Lê Quốc Vũ and Huỳnh Hoàng Phúc of Cần Thơ finished first and second respectively in the 162km stage from Quảng Bình to Huế City. Vũ triumphed with a time of 3:58.06.
Cần Thơ also won the team race, their first win in the 30 stage event. Military Zone 7 lead overall.
Despite not being in top three of this stage, Huỳnh Thanh Tùng of the Military Zone 7 retained the yellow jersey for the best overall time after eight stages.
Lê Nguyệt Minh of HCM City-Minh Giang holds the green jersey for best sprinter, while Nguyễn Cường Khang of VUS-HCM City has the white jersey for best young cyclist.
Today, cyclists will have a day off.

The National Rowing and Canoeing Clubs Championship began in Đà Nẵng City on April 5.
The event attracted the participation of more than 200 players from 26 cities and provinces nationwide.
Rowers are competing in 19 categories of 2,000m distance, while in canoeing, participants are playing 36 categories of three distances: 1,000m, 500m and 200m.
According to Nguyễn Trọng Thao, Deputy Director of the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Head of the Organising Board, the event’s best athletes will be selected for the national teams to compete in the upcoming international tournaments.
The event, which will close on April 12, was co-organised by the Việt Nam Rowing Federation and the Đà Nẵng Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Việt Nam won the third match of the Davis Cup Asia-Pacific Zone, Group III, in Hà Nội yesterday, defeating Malaysia 3-0.
Trịnh Linh Giang defeated Christian Didier Chin 6-4, 6-0 in the first singles match, while Lý Hoàng Nam took down Muhammad-Ashaari Bin Zainal-Abidin 6-0, 6-1 in the second singles match.
In the men’s doubles match, Phạm Minh Tuấn and Lê Quốc Khánh topped Ahmed Deedat Abdul Razak and Syed Mohd Agil Syed Naguib. 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 in two hours and 11 minutes.
Earlier, Việt Nam beat Pacific Oceania 2-1 and bested Cambodia 3-0.

Việt Nam has won six gold medals of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Junior Athletics Championships at Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand.
The gold medals went to Lê Tiến Long in men’s 3,000m run, Dương Thị Hoa in 100m run, Ngô Thị Khánh Ny in 800m run, Bùi Thị Nguyên in the 100m obstacle race, Hoàng Thị Giang in long jump and Đoàn Thu Hằng in the women’s 3,000m run on Wednesday.
Vietnamese athletes also bagged seven silver and three bronze medals.
Thailand temporarily topped the medal tally with seven golds, three silvers and five bronzes, followed by Việt Nam and Malaysia.
The tournament attracted athletes born between 2001 and 2003 from 10 SEA countries. They competed in 19 men’s and women’s categories each. Việt Nam sent 32 athletes to compete in running, high jump, long jump, shotput and javelin.
