Vietnamese to become hockey coaches

VietNamNet Bridge – Five Vietnamese will attend a hockey coaching course in Singapore on December 8-12 to become Viet Nam’s first hockey coaches.

They are Luu Phan Lap Luong, Huynh Dai Phuc, Nguyen Le Quang, Ly Kim Long and Nguyen Lam Phuc.

"For the first time in the history, we will have our own qualified Vietnamese hockey coaches to train more hockey coaches to develop it in Viet Nam. This is an important step for the growth of Viet Nam hockey," said James Chew, CEO of the Viet Nam Hockey Federation.

The course is accredited by the Asian Hockey Federation and the International Hockey Federation.

Hockey has been played in Viet Nam for more than 10 years and Viet Nam has a national men’s hockey team.

Phương beats former champion at tennis event

Fifteen-year-old Nguyễn Văn Phương of Bình Dương beat former national champion Hoàng Thành Trung of the People’s Police in the men’s singles group A match of the National Tennis Tournament.

The game was played on December 7 in the central province of Nghệ An.

Phương won 6-4, 4-6, 5-4. (Trung retired because of injury).

In other match of Group A, top Vietnamese tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam of Bình Dương defeated Trương Giang Thanh of HCM City 6-3, 6-3.

In Group B matches, Nguyễn Đắc Tiến of Hà Nội was defeated by Trịnh Linh Giang of Bình Dương 2-6, 6(2)-7. Meanwhile, Phạm Minh Tuấn of Đà Nẵng crushed Vũ Artem of Bình Dương 6-2, 6-4.

On the women’s side, Phan Thị Thanh Bình of Đà Nẵng bested Trần Thị Thanh Trúc of HCM City 6-2, 6-0 in Group A.

In the men’s doubles, Nam and Phương lost to Quốc Khánh and Quang Trí of HCM City. (Phương retired because of exhaustion). 

Da Nang in semis of Binh Duong football tournament

SHB Da Nang have earned a slot to compete in the semi-finals of the ongoing Binh Duong Television International Football Tournament-Number 1 Cup.

The team have six points after beating Hai Phong 2-0 in the second match of Group B on Tuesday.

The other ticket will be a fight among three teams - Shonan Bellmare of Japan, who have two points, Hai Phong FC and Bangu Atlético of Brazil, who have one point each.

The annual event held in the southern province of Binh Duong sees the participation of four domestic and four foreign teams, divided into two groups. Viet Nam trounced Myanmar 18-2 on December 6 after losing 0-4 to the hosts one day earlier.

With one win and one loss, Viet Nam ensure a berth in the knock-out round. The other slot goes to leading Malaysia, who hammered Myanmar 16-0 yesterday.

In Group A, Thailand won 7-2 over Indonesia, and Laos best Cambodia 6-2.

Viet Nam will play Thailand, while Malaysia meet Indonesia in the semi-final round.

Tung wins three golds at national gymnastics event

Lê Thanh Tùng won three gold medals at the National Gymnastics Tournament, which concluded in Lãnh Bình Thăng Gymnasium in HCM City.

Tùng of HCM City overcame two veterans Phạm Phước Hưng and Đinh Phương Thành of Hà Nội to claim a gold medal in the men’s all-around.

It is the first time in six years that a gymnast of HCM City has won a gold medal in the men’s all-round category.

Besides this, Tùng won gold medals in the floor exercise and horizontal bar events.

Đỗ Thị Ngọc Hương bagged three gold medals for Hà Nội in the women’s all-around, uneven bars and balance beam categories.

The two-day event saw the participation of teams from Hà Nội, the Military, Hải Phòng and HCM City.
