Vietnamese athletes dominated all categories of the Southeast Asian E-Sport Championships' FIFA Online 3 which wrapped-up in HCM City on Sunday.

Local Nguyen Thai Bao defeated Joseph Yew of Singapore in the individual class to take his title together with a bonus of VND63 million (US$2,900).

His team Sai Gon FFG won over Neolution Esports from Thailand.

It was the first time an international tournament for FIFA Online 3 has been held in Viet Nam.

Earlier, the Abuzu Taipei Assassins topped the League of Legends event.

The two-day HCM City competition attracted teams from six countries and territories, competing at the Phu Tho Gymnasium in front of 10,000 spectators.

Tien Minh to compete at Singapore open tourney

Vietnam’s top badminton player, Nguyen Tien Minh, left Vietnam on April 6 to take part in the 2014 Singapore Open Super Series from April 8 - 13.

Minh (world No.8) is seeded No.7 at the coming tournament where he will meet outstanding players Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia, Takuma Ueda of Japan, and Kashiyap Srikanth of India.

In his first match, Minh will compete against World No.24 Chou Tien Chen from Taiwan (China).

Last season, Tien Minh entered the semi-finals, but missed the chance to proceed further after being summarily defeated by Indonesian opponent Tommy Sugiarto, who had previously lost to Minh in 6 consecutive times.

This year’s Super Series attracts many famous players from around the world, such as Lee Chong Wei (World No.1) of Malaysia, Kenichi Tago (World No.3) of Japan, Boonsak Ponsana (World No.6) of Thailand, and Wan Ho Son (World No. 10) of the Republic of Korea.

Defending champion Tommy Sugiarto (World No.4), is seeded No.3 at the tournament.

Ha Noi to host National Shooting Cup

The National Shooting Cup is scheduled to take place in the Ha Noi-based National Sports Training Centre from April 16 to 24.

Fifteen teams from across the country will participate in the event, including the Army, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Ha Noi and HCM City.

It is a warm-up for the National Shooting Championships which will be held in November.

The Vietnamese Shooting Federation will award special prizes to sportspersons who break national records.

Vietnamese badminton has first win at 2014 World Junior Championship

The Vietnamese team on April 7 won their first matches at the 2014 World Badminton Federation World Junior Championships Team Event which opened the same day in Malaysian as part of the 2014 World Junior Championships.

The seven-member Vietnamese team easily defeated the US rivals 5-0.

They will play Slovenia on April 8. Slovenia suffered a 0-5 loss at the hand of China the previous day.

The team event will last until April 11, while the individual event will tke place from April 13-18.
