Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, has established its first ground station in Vietnam, marking a major step toward providing satellite internet nationwide.
The news was revealed by Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT, during the launch of the FPT Fornix HCM02 data center in Ho Chi Minh City on August 20.
According to Khoa, after receiving approval to pilot satellite internet services in Vietnam, Starlink selected two local partners to set up ground stations, with FPT chosen as the first. The station has been installed at the newly launched FPT Fornix HCM02. The facility will capture signals from Starlink’s satellites to deliver satellite internet services locally.
Khoa also revealed that as of July 31, FPT had generated USD 1.5 billion in revenue from international markets. He emphasized that these earnings were achieved without using natural resources or land, but instead through global software services and digital transformation solutions.
The FPT Fornix HCM02 data center spans 8 floors, covering 10,000 square meters with a capacity of 3,600 racks. It is designed with advanced redundancy architectures (N+1, N+2, 2N), ensuring continuous maintenance without service interruptions and uptime of at least 99.982%.
This reliability is vital for sectors such as banking, e-commerce, logistics, and national digital transformation projects - where even a few seconds of downtime could cause significant disruption.
Notably, the center is built under the Carrier Neutral model, allowing clients to connect with multiple telecom providers. This flexibility helps optimize costs, boost redundancy, improve performance, and foster an open digital ecosystem while supporting national digital sovereignty and security.
