Accordingly, the Lunar New Year holiday is expected to last nine days between February 15 and 23 next year. However, State employees would have to work on Saturday, February 14.

Meanwhile, for the New Year holiday, such employees would have four days off, but they would have to work on Saturday, December 27 of this year, also.

Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Minh Huan said these long holidays aim to ensure work efficiency of State employees and avoid traffic congestion in the peak time in the Tet holiday.

However, the deputy minister admits though the regulation is not applied to private enterprises and other social organizations, it may also influence their business operations.

He also noted that State agencies responsible for working directly with people or providing public services will have to prepare plans to maintain business as normal and ensure the number of days off for their staff in line with the rule.

The ministry’s proposal is expected to be approved by the Government this month.

Earlier, the Government has also passed two plans for the nine-day Tet holiday in the last two years.
