VietNamNet Bridge – A newly born baby classified as stillborn was found to be still breathing when taken home for burial.
The baby's 29-year-old mother, from Nui Thanh District's Tam Xuan 1 Commune, was taken to Quang Nam General Hospital on Sunday afternoon with what she thought was a severe stomach ache.
However, later she gave birth to a 700g baby boy, who was described as "stillborn" after a premature delivery.
Hospital staff told the mother to take the child home for burial.
When they reached home, the family discovered the baby was still breathing. He was then rushed to Quang Nam Paediatrics Hospital.
Director of the hospital, Hoang Xuan Viet, told a Vietnam News Agency reporter that the baby arrived in a weak state and breathing was shallow.
Viet said the baby's life was fragile but the hospital would try its best to save him.
According to the reporter, the baby's family is worried how it will be able to afford all the costs and is considering suing Quang Nam General Hospital.
