VietNamNet Bridge – According to latest information, Jebi – the fifth storm in the East Sea this year – will enter the area from Quang Ninh to Thai Binh at noon or in the afternoon of August 3.

At 1pm on August 1, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control met to discuss measures to cope with storm Jebi.

Mr. Bui Minh Tang, Director of the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecast said in the evening of August 2, the Gulf of Tonkin will have strong winds. On the morning of August 3, the northern coastal provinces will have wind at level 6 or more.

It is forecasted that the storm will pass the area stretching from Quang Ninh to Thai Binh and possibly Nam Dinh. The time of landfall may be at noon or in the afternoon of August 3.

Heavy rains will last about 1.5-2 days on a large scale (in Northern provinces and Thanh Hoa) from August 3 to 4.

Mr. Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Head of the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control asked northern coastal provinces must complete their preparation against the storm before 7am on August 3.

Currently there are 11 ships operating in the water of Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands. Phat required relevant forces to "rescue" the ships because the storm is about to sweep through this area.

Phat also proposed to give warnings to the provinces of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Can, Thai Nguyen and Yen Bai of heavy rains in the next few days.

On the morning of August 2, two missions will go to Quang Ninh - Hai Phong and Nam Dinh – Thai Binh to inspect the preparation against storm Jebi.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecast, at 1pm on August 1, storm Jebi was moving to the east Hoang Sa (Spratly) Islands. Strongest wind in the center of the storm was up to level 8 and higher.

In the next 24 hours, the storm will move northwest, at about 15 km per hour and it is capable of getting more powerful.

At 1pm on August 2, the storm will be near the eastern coast of Hainan (China). The strongest winds near the center of the storm will be at level 10 or more (from 89 to 102 km per hour).

Because of the storm, from tomorrow night (August 2), the Tonkin Gulf will have winds from level 6 to 8 and higher near the storm eye. The sea will be very rough.

From the morning of August 3, the coast of Northeast provinces will have strong wind from level 6 and 7.

Also from August 3, in the northern region and Thanh Hoa province, there will be heavy rain and thunderstorms. The coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Nam Dinh must be aware of high tides from 3 - 5m.
