VietNamNet Bridge – A 4x6m painting made by millions of used straws has been recognized as a national record.

The painting was created by 1,500 volunteers to call for people to not use plastic straws to protect
the environment and prevent climate change.

The painting is part of a series of events to support 350.org, a global environmental protection campaign
which is held in nearly 190 countries in the world.

The painting features the contrast between the world of the death, which is surrounded by waste
and the world of living, which is pure and close to the nature.

Initiated in 2007 by American writer Bill Mckibben, Campaign 350.org is operating in 188 countries.
The campaign welcome all initiatives and plans that can help reduce carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere from 392 parts per million to below 350.

Last year, on the campaign's Global Day of Action, more than 7,000 actions to cut down emission
were conducted in the 188 countries, including Vietnam. This year, with the theme “Moving Planet,”
the campaign calls on people to use bicycles, reduce the use of fossil energy and recycle waste.

Photos of celebrities calling for sparing use of straws will be published in a photo book.

In Vietnam, the campaign’s ambassadors and guests include songwriter Duong Thu, beauty queen
Huong Giang, Madam Ton Nu Thi Ninh, Pi and X-5 bands and singer Ha Okio.

The campaign’s ambassador, Huong Giang, talked with HCM City’s students about her
activities to protect the environment, such as using paper bags instead of plastic bags,
taking vegetarian food and using bike instead of motorbike.

The campaign has attracted thousands of students, with dozens of events held
 in many provinces and cities.
