The strongest cold spell since the onset of winter this year has started chilling the northern region of Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The cold weather has affected northern mountainous areas from this morning, December 14. Northeastern and northwestern localities as well as the northern central region would be hit by the cold front this afternoon and evening.

From tomorrow, December 15, the whole northern and northern central regions would face the first bone-chilling cold wave this winter with the temperatures up to minus five degrees in some mountainous areas such as Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai. The lowest temperatures in other areas would be from 11-14 degrees centigrade.

Hanoi would turn cold this afternoon.
