Deslab, a laboratory at the HCMC University of Natural Sciences, in cooperation with enterprises, receives students and serves as an incubator for students’ technological products.

Duy is working on his model of a car 

At 9 am, the 15 square meter room in the E Building of the HCMC University of Natural Sciences, was full of students working with equipment. Outside the room, a group of students were discussing their research works.

Pham Cao Phong, a fourth-year student at the Electronics & Telecommunications, said he has been working there for four years. He was testing computer chips made to order from an enterprise. The work requires high concentration. If Phong makes a mistake, the chips will break down.

“It takes two workers several hours to make one chip. However, we are happy because we can work,” Phong said, adding that the work helps him practice circuit designing and learn about enterprises’ demands.

“I can also earn money from the job. The income is not big, but it's significant to me,” he said.

Next to Phong, Huynh Quoc Duy, a third-year student, was seen completing his model of a car. Duy said he is going to participate in a petrol-engine car racing competition to be organized by Cao Thang Junior College.

Duy began working at the lab one year ago. He was working on the wheeling and brake system.

“The biggest advantage of the lab is the good facilities which allow me to make electricity circuits for my car,” Duy said.

He also appreciated the opportunities to consult with engineers and experts, which helps him have knowledge about his major.

According to Le Duc Hung, who runs Deslab, the lab opens on Saturday and Sunday to welcome students. At the beginning of academic year, the lab looks for students with passion for scientific research.

Deslab was established in 2006 by the lecturers of the Electronics & Telecommunication Faculty of the HCMC University of Natural Sciences. It serves as an arm supporting the faculty. It also develops technological products and transfers technology to enterprises.

One of the most outstanding products of Deslab is a microscope system connected with computers. The product display images collected by microscopes on computers.

This is a product of the lab’s community program for education and health. The lab will transfer 1, 000 systems to schools and medical facilities nationwide.
