A previously unknown cave called Tham Phong has been discovered by a travel agency in the northern province of Bac Kan’s Ba Be district.

After entering via the cave’s mouth, which is 5-6 metres high and 5-7 metres wide, the cave splits into two sections, each of which is estimated at between 400 and 500 metres.

Running water is found on the cave’s bottom surface, while stalactites are found on both sides and the ceiling of the cave.

Nguyen Van Ha, Deputy Director of the Bac Kan Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said a travel agency has asked for permission to use the cave for adventure travel but the proposal has not yet been approved.

He added that the department would report the information to the provincial People’s Committee in order to carry out a comprehensive survey of the cave before using it for tourism purposes.
