VietNamNet Bridge – A businessman in HCM City has offered for sale a SIM (subscriber identity module) for nearly VND10 billion ($500,000) on social media.

The sim that is offered for nearly VND10 billion, which was previously used by the president of Mai Linh Group.

The seller, Bui Nguyen Gia Khang, director of a telecom firm based in District 10, HCM City, said he bought this SIM (0989 999 999) from the President of the Mai Linh Group in March, at the price of VND5 billion ($250,000).

This number was used by the telecom firm’s directory enquiries. Khang now wanted to sell the SIM for VND10 billion to raise funds for a charity project.

Khang said some businessmen offered VND7-8 billion for this SIM but he refused as he believed that he could sell it at a higher price.

The businessman also offered for sale two other so-called “super-SIMs” (0996 666 666 and 0986 666 666) which he bought from a restaurant owner in Vung Tau City and from a mobile network operator. The prices for these SIMs are also VND10 billion each.

Khang said the revenue from these Super-SIMs will be used to build 2-3 schools in remote areas.

Also, a SIM of Vietnamobile (01 888 888 888) has been offered for VND18 billion ($900,000) by a phone and SIM shop in HCM City.

Several months ago, some SIMs of Viettel (888 888, 777 777, 666 666) were offered for sale at the price of several billion VND each (tens of thousands of USD)

On November 2, a super SIM of MobiFone (0933 999 999) was sold to an entrepreneur in the northern province of Thai Nguyen for nearly VND3 billion ($140,000). The buyer said that he bought the SIM for his own use.
