Whenever a new street is built in Hanoi, there are many small plots of land left after ground clearance work and the owners build houses on whatever is left behind no matter the shape.

Pham Van Dong Street has an investment of VND3.1trn (USD134,000) and a large number of small houses are already being built along with the street.

There are still many strangely-shaped houses in Hanoi such as the triangle house and less-than-one-metre-wide house along Vo Chi Cong Street.
