Supermodel Thanh Hang has filed a complaint with the HCM City Department of Information and Communications, alleging that the 1st Runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 Hoang Thuy spread false information about her, causing significant harm to her reputation.

Speaking to VietNamNet, Thanh Hang's representative stated that the supermodel sought legal recourse to protect her honor. Thanh Hang lodged the complaint after believing that Hoang Thuy had published "false information" about her.

Recent controversy

Recently, Hoang Thuy has been posting a series of articles on her personal social media page mentioning certain individuals whom she claims prevented her from being a judge at Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, despite being invited by the pageant's president.

In her latest post, Hoang Thuy referred to a "mysterious character" who opposed her appointment. She revealed a snippet of a message (with the sender's name concealed) that explicitly mentioned Thanh Hang: "Thanh Hang doesn't want". Although Hoang Thuy did not explicitly name Thanh Hang, she used phrases like "Chị chị em em" and "Mỹ nhân kế" (movies in which Thanh Hang plays key roles) suggesting that Thanh Hang used her influence to suppress the younger generation.

Legal action

In her complaint, Thanh Hang stated: "Thuy's actions are no longer veiled but directly mention my name, aiming to mislead public opinion and accuse me of being the reason she was not selected as a judge."

The supermodel claimed that she had been subjected to online harassment because of Hoang Thuy's posts. Some individuals even targeted the social media pages of brands she represents, calling for boycotts and contract cancellations.

"This behavior has seriously affected my work and reputation. Moreover, my family and loved ones have also been impacted by negative comments. My lawyer and I are taking decisive steps to protect my honor and personal image," Thanh Hang said.

Thanh Hang emphasized the necessity of protecting her legal rights and interests, as well as those of her family, friends, brands, and partners affected by the negative fallout. She has requested legal support from the relevant authorities to address and penalize individuals or groups responsible for spreading false information.

The supermodel also called on the organizers of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 to correct the false information to preserve the competition's integrity and positive spirit. Above all, Thanh Hang hopes for a peaceful resolution through mutual understanding.

"However, if the situation continues to exceed legal boundaries and becomes uncontrollable, my legal representative and I will take specific legal actions to protect ourselves and those affected by these potentially unlawful acts, whether directly or indirectly," she asserted.

Hoang Thuy, 32, is a prominent model and beauty queen in Vietnam. She gained widespread recognition in 2011 when she won the second season of Vietnam's Next Top Model. Known for her striking features and impressive catwalk, Hoang Thuy has since built a successful career in the fashion industry.

In 2017, she was crowned 1st Runner-up in Miss Universe Vietnam, which paved the way for her to represent Vietnam in the Miss Universe 2019 pageant. At Miss Universe 2019, she placed in the Top 20, further solidifying her status as a leading figure in Vietnamese beauty and fashion.
