He came third in the men’s S5 100m, with a time of 1min 19.56sec.

Brazilian Daniel Dias won the gold, clocking 1:10.58 and Theo Curin of France came second, with a time of 1:18.28.

Viet Nam Team manager, Ho Thanh My, said it was not Tung’s favourite event. He was a master in the 50m categories, which will be organised in the next few days. She hoped that the 2016 Paralympic silver medalist would do better today and tomorrow.

Other swimmers from Vietnam were Trinh Thi Bich Nhu (women’s SB5 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle) and Nguyen Thanh Trung (men’s S5 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke).

Nhu had won a bronze medal at the world championship in 2015 in Glasgow, Scotland.
