A 23-year-old man from the northern mountain province of Yen Bai has been confirmed dead at Bach Mai hospital in Hanoi after contracting swine flu.

Clinical tests showed that the man was infected with the H1N1 flu virus that killed a Yen Bai man early this month.

The hospital said the patient died on April 18 suffering from respiratory failure, blood clotting disorder, and severe multi-organ failure.

The man was said to have high temperatures, a headache and body discomfort on April 3. He used antipyretics and anti-flu drugs.

Two days later he went to the Yen Bai general hospital for medical check-ups and doctors said he had caught pneumonia.

He was admitted to Bach Mai hospital on April 8 after having breathing difficulty and passed away more than a week later despite intensive care.

Clinical tests showed that three relatives of the patient were also infected with the virus, but recovered completely.
