The new headquarters of the Swiss Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City was inaugurated on June 2 in the presence of Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Didier Burkhalter.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Swiss foreign affairs chief said that the opening of the Swiss Consulate General in the largest economic hub of Vietnam symbolises the important development and expansion of the bilateral ties.

He affirmed that the new representative office will help boost economic exchanges between the two countries, actively supporting Swiss enterprises’ operations in Vietnam.

Switzerland considers Vietnam a prioritised country for economic cooperation in Southeast Asia, he said, adding that approximately 80 Swiss enterprises are doing business in Vietnam.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan stated that the City will always welcome Swiss leaders, businesses and people, and pledges to coordinate with the Swiss Embassy and Consulate General to speed up bilateral cooperation programmes and projects in order to foster the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Switzerland.-
