VietNamNet Bridge – The 33rd Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championships is scheduled to take place on September 7-13 in the southern province of Can Tho.

The event will feature about 140 athletes from 15 teams nationwide, including the Ministry of Public Security, Ca Mau, Ha Noi and Khanh Hoa, with seven categories: men's and women's team, singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Veterans such as Doan Kien Quoc, Mai Hoang My Trang and Nguyen Viet Linh, are expected to excel, as are a number of young athletes including Le Tien Dat, Nguyen Hoang Chung and Dao Duy Hoang.

The seven-day event aims to showcase young talents and increase table tennis participation in locals.

Competitors will be battling for VND195 million (US$8,900) in total prize money, with the top three players in each category and the most outstanding young male and female performers winning prize-money.

Long An dominate in the pool

Long An remained in top position after two days of competition at the National Finswimming and Swimming Clubs Championships in the southern province of Can Tho yesterday, August 24.

The team bagged 20 golds, seven silvers and three bronzes. National Defence Sport Centre 5 finished second with 15 golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes. Tay Ninh took third with seven golds, 16 silvers and 16 bronzes.

Nearly 200 athletes from 13 teams are participating in the event which will run until tomorrow.
