VietNamNet Bridge - Nearly 30 models of tablets are being sold in the
market with the prices ranging from 2.7 million dong to 22.9 million dong.
Consumers don’t know what products they should select because all the products
seem to be the same to them.
Products numerous for choice
There are about 30 models of tablets with well known brands available on
the market, including Apple’s models - iPad 1 and 2, Samsung - Galaxy Tab 1, ZTE
- V9, Acer’s - A500, W500 and W501, Dell’s - Streak, Asus’ - Eee Pad Transfomer;
Motorola’s - Xoom, and HTC’s - Flyer. Meanwhile, Q550 and T731 of Fujitsu or
Optimus Pad of LG will be on sale in the near future.
Le Huy Toan, a senior executive of The Gioi Di Dong, a big digital product distribution chain, said that in terms of quantity, Samsung Galaxy Tab is the best seller in June with about 300 products sold in the month.
"Meanwhile, Apple is still leading the brands thanks to its diversified versions," Toan said. iPad 2 32GB (with wifi and 3G, 20.5 million dong) and iPad 2 16GB (with wifi and 3G, 17.7 million dong) are selling well. Acer A500 (12.5 million dong) and W500 (15 million dong) are also two of the most popular choices because of their beautiful designs, bright screen and sensitive touch screen.
Khoa, a customer in district 3 in HCM City, noted that the two models would sell better if they had 3G feature. Tablets with 3G are preferred since its ability to connect flexibly is very helpful in working, despite the fact that these tablets are more expensive than ones with wi-fi only.
Most users said that they like tablets whose sizes are from 7 to 10 inches. "A small screen makes it hard to see while a big screen makes it difficult to carry when moving, so I only choose 10 inch tablets”, said Tan from Go Vap district in HCM City).
Worries exist
Truc Anh of District 3 in HCM City said that she is seeking for a table PC which can meet those criteria: cheap, durable and useful (just office applications are enough). However, too many options have made her puzzled. At first, she wanted to buy an iPad 2, but it is too expensive (22 million dong). Meanwhile, she heard from other people who use iPad 2 already that it is a little difficult to use. She then considered choosing Eee Pad Transformer of Asus because of its low price (about 13 million dong), but still wondered about its durability.
Quan in Hanoi just needs a tablet with simple features which allows him to work when he is away from the office, but he couldn’t make decision which one to choose among hundreds of tablets introduced on the website of Mobile World.
"Each tablet users has a different comment. Many people complain about iPad 2 that it is hard to find free applications and users usually have to pay for them. Asus Eee Pad Transformer is praised for its nice design, but criticized for the mediocre image quality”, said Chuong in Tan Phu District in HCM City). According to Hoang Tien in District 7, though the Eee Pad has a smart design, it is too heavy for a tablet.
Hanh, who has used many types of tablets, said that Acer tablets run Win 7, so they often get hot, and if users install graphic applications, they will run very slowly, although these tablets are good at handling simple office applications like typing documents or checking mails…"Entertainment applications for tablets running Windows 7 are a bit rare, so it is not a good idea to use the tablets which run this operating system”, said Hanh.
