Taekwondo artists grab two Asian combat silver medals
Vietnam’s taekwondo artists fought to win two silver and one bronze medal in the combat competition of the 21st Asian Taekwondo Championships and the 3rd Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, which concluded in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on May 28.
The team’s first combat silver was seen in the men’s 58kg category with Nguyen Van Duy, who failed to dominate his Iranian opponent after making the final clash.
Ha Thi Nguyen captured the second silver for Vietnam, missing out on the title against a Chinese martial artist in the women’s 67kg finals.
Vietnam’s only bronze medal went to young artist Pham Thi Hang in the women’s 57kg category.
Nguyen Trong Cuong, the 2012 men’s 87kg champion, did not live up to expectations as he failed to make the podium at this year’s event.
Earlier on May 25, the Vietnam poomsae team produced a booming performance, taking three gold medals in the women’s individual and team events and the mixed team category, as well as an additional four silver and two bronze medals.
Nam crashes out of Belgian championships
With the departure of Ly Hoang Nam, there is no Vietnamese player left in the ongoing 50th Astrid Bowl Charleroi, Belgian International Junior Championships.
Nam lost 6-1, 3-6, 2-6 to South Korean Lee Duck-hee in the third round of the boys' singles event yesterday (May 28).
He now moves to France to take part in the qualifying round of the French Open which starts on June 1.
Binh Duong face selection problems in V-League
Becamex Binh Duong will not have their best players for the coming V-League match against Quang Ninh Coal this weekend.
Key striker Moses Oloya has returned home to play for Uganda's national team in the African National Cup against Madagascar tomorrow.
Forward Abass Cheikh Dieng, Binh Duong's top scorer with eight goals, will be sidelined because of a twisted ankle.
However, the former champions will have former national team midfielder Le Tan Tai, who has completed his transfer from Hai Phong.
Binh Duong are currently second on the ranking table, with 29 points after 13 matches, after losing the top spot to Ha Noi T&T on Wednesday.
U19 teams to compete for title next month
The National Women's U19 Football Championship will be kicked off on June 20 with the participation of five clubs.
The teams participating in the championship are Ha Noi, Viet Nam Coal and Minerals, Phong Phu Ha Nam, HCM City and Moc Chau Milk Son La.
Teams will compete in a round-robin, two-legged format. The first leg is from June 20 to 29 at the Youth Football Training Centre of the Viet Nam Football Federation. The second leg is from September 1 to 15 at the Son La Province's stadium.
The winners will bag VND 60 million while the two runners-up will receive VND50 million and VND30 million, respectively.
Other prizes include fair-play award, best players, best scorer and best keeper.
