VietNamNet Bridge – Despite rainy weather, cyclists continued to pedal along the second stage of the Mekong Delta Cycling Tour – An Giang Plant Protection Cup, and yesterday, Aug 15, the win went to Nguyen Truong Tai of Domesco Dong Thap.

Tai took the lead with a time of 3hrs 14secs and an average speed of 44.2767 kph in the 133km stage from An Giang Province's Long Xuyen City to Kien Giang Province's Rach Gia City. In doing so, he overcame runners up Ho Huynh Van An from An Giang Plant Protection 2 and Vo Phu Trung of An Giang Plant Protection 1.

With this win, Tai seized the yellow jersey (the best time) from his teammate Dinh Quoc Viet and now claims the best overall time of 3:44.01 after two stages.

Tai still retains the green jersey as the best finish with 40 points, followed by An with 38 points.

However, Tai's effort didn't help his team lead the overall race. Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 took the lead with a combined time of 11:13.39, followed by An Giang Plant Protection 1 and Sai Gon Plant Protection 2.

Today, cyclists will continue on to the third 130km stage from Rach Gia City to Ca Mau City.

The annual event attracts 100 riders from 20 teams nationwide to compete in eight stages totalling 947km from An Giang Province to Vinh Long Province.

A total prize of US$12,000 will be presented to the winners of the tournament.
