VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent a document to the Vietnam Kieu Study Association on proposing that UNESCO recognize the Tale of Kieu as a world cultural heritage.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Tale of Kieu is a literary masterpiece of Vietnam.

However, according to UNESCO regulations on intangible cultural heritage, literary works are not eligible for UNESCO to consider as world cultural heritage. Therefore, a profile on the Tale of Kieu has not been made for UNESCO recognition.

However, the Ministry appreciated the idea to restore textually the Tale of Kieu by Nguyen Du of the Vietnam Kieu Study Association.

It also asked the association to coordinate with relevant agencies to implement the idea.
