Passenger traffic at Tan Son Nhat International Airport is set to surge during the upcoming National Day holiday on September 2, with peak days seeing up to 130,000 travelers per day. A promising sign is the increased activity at the newly operational Terminal T3, which has now welcomed more major airlines.

On August 22, according to Tan Son Nhat International Airport authorities, both passenger numbers and flight frequencies are expected to rise significantly during the National Day holiday period. At peak, the airport may handle up to 130,000 travelers per day.

Specifically, the average number of daily flights is projected to reach 730 (a 6% increase compared to current operations), including 430 domestic flights and 300 international flights. Average passenger volume is also expected to increase by 6%, reaching 125,000 daily, with 75,000 domestic and 50,000 international travelers.

The two busiest days are forecasted to be August 30 (peak for outbound domestic travel) and September 2 (peak for return domestic travel), with approximately 750 flights and more than 130,000 passengers expected to pass through the airport on each day.

In preparation for this surge, Tan Son Nhat has completed the relocation of multiple domestic airlines to operate from the new Terminal T3. These include Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines.

VietJet Air, however, will continue operating domestic flights from Terminal T1.

This strategic reallocation of airlines aims to alleviate congestion at Terminal T1 and improve passenger experience, particularly during the high-traffic holiday season.

In response to the anticipated increase in passenger traffic, airport security personnel have been reinforced and deployed around the clock at critical areas such as terminal lobbies, screening checkpoints, public zones, and aircraft aprons.

Aviation security checks and surveillance are also being conducted rigorously in accordance with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam's regulations, ensuring maximum peace of mind for passengers during the holiday travel period.

According to consolidated data, Tan Son Nhat International Airport recorded strong growth during the summer peak season from May 22 to August 17, compared to the same period in 2024.

The total number of flights reached 60,144, averaging nearly 700 per day - a 5.94% year-on-year increase. Passenger volume hit over 10.2 million, with a daily average of nearly 119,000 - up 4.48% from 2024.

Notably, international passenger traffic surged by 7.73%, while domestic traffic increased by 2.39%, reflecting the robust recovery of the aviation industry, especially international tourism, following the peak summer season.
