The quality of services offered at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC ranked last, at an average of 3.96 points on a scale of five, among six local airports in the country last year, according to a report released today, March 11, by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

The HCMC-based airport recorded lower scores than it did in 2017 in terms of quality of services in the arrivals, departures, public transport and waiting areas. Meanwhile, the quality in the areas for conducting flight procedures, security screening, and customs checks improved, recording higher scores than 2017.

CAAV’s Airway Transport Department attributed the low scores of Tan Son Nhat airport to an overload of passengers. Last year, more than 38 million passengers traveled through the airport, up 6.4% year-on-year, while its designed capacity is only 25 million passengers.

CAAV carried out the survey among passengers at the six airports, including Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Danang, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc and Cat Bi, during the period from October to December 2018 and received 25,000 valid responses, which gave feedback on the seven areas of the airports for arrivals and departures, conducting flight procedures, security screening and public transportation vehicles.

Most passengers stated that Cai Bi Airport in Hai Phong City provided quality services and it thus secured the top spot with an average score of 4.56, followed by Cam Ranh, Danang and Noi Bai airports.

The quality of flight-related services offered at Cam Ranh, Cat Bi and Danang airports received positive feedback from passengers; these airports have been renovated and in 2018, put into service international passenger terminals, according to CAAV.
