Passengers check in at Tan Son Nhat International Airport

Dang Tuan Tu, director of the Tan Son Nhat Airport Authority, said the increase of night flights would ease the overload of jet parking space at night, because the airplanes would continuously depart and land so the number of airplanes in the parking area would not increase.

The airport and carriers will deploy more staff to serve passengers 24 hours a day during peak days before Tet, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper quoted him as saying.

Nguyen Quy Don, head of the HCM City long-range air traffic control centre of the Southern Airport Authority, said the centre also planned to increase its staff to be on duty at Tan Son Nhat airport during peak hours.

According to the Tan Son Nhat authority, the number of passengers and flights before and after Tet 2017 will rise year-on-year 19.6 per cent.

In particular, on January 24 and 25, the Tan Son Nhat airport will handle 776 flights and 112,745 passengers, an increase of 141 flights and 14,500 passengers compared to the same period last year.

After Tet, the airport will serve 805 flights and 124,775 passengers per day.

The authority forecast that the number of passengers would rise consistently from today (January 16).

Tet falls in late January, but HCM City residents often begin flying back to their hometowns weeks before the holiday.
