In addition to notifications via eTax mobile and SMS, the department aims to leverage more advanced digital technologies to ensure timely communication with taxpayers.
Many readers of VietNamNet have expressed the need for more efficient and proactive methods of warning business leaders about potential travel bans.
Some have suggested creating a public website that lists individuals subject to travel bans for tax debts, including relevant documentation from tax authorities, customs, courts, and enforcement agencies.
This would allow individuals and businesses to easily check their status using their ID or passport numbers and resolve any outstanding issues before travel, thus avoiding unintended consequences.
During a press briefing on September 27, 2024, Dang Ngoc Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Taxation, confirmed that the department had taken these suggestions on board.
Minh stated that the tax department will implement multiple channels to notify tax debtors, including through the eTax mobile application and direct SMS messages to taxpayers.
At the same event, Nguyen Duc Chi, Deputy Minister of Finance, highlighted the challenges facing the financial sector in 2024. “We thought 2024 would be a favorable year for the Ministry of Finance to meet its targets, but the recent historic storm in Northern Vietnam caused significant material and human losses, greatly affecting our economic and social plans as well as financial goals,” he said.
According to data from the Ministry of Finance, as of now, state budget revenue has reached approximately 85% of the annual target. Both central and local budget revenues are progressing well, with central budget collections slightly outpacing those of local governments.
The ministry forecasts that by the end of 2024, the state budget revenue target will be met, ensuring sufficient resources for approved spending plans and emergency expenditures.
“The task of the Ministry of Finance is to ensure accurate and sufficient tax collection to meet the highest possible revenue targets. Surpassing revenue goals will allow us to allocate excess funds to critical investment projects, particularly infrastructure and development,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Duc Chi emphasized.
