VietNamNet Bridge – Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, a poor taxi driver from Gio Linh District of Quang Tri province, has returned missing property worth nearly VND1 billion (US$50,000), to its holder.

Dung is teaching his daughter at home.

In his small house, Dung, 34, told correspondents that he has three children. Before to be a taxi driver, he did a lot of jobs but his family was still poor.

Dung said that when he was waiting for a passenger at the Phu Bai Airport in Hue City, he accidentally found an unclaimed bag. Opening the bag, he saw four diamond rings, a pair of earrings, some gold, a platinum necklace, $18,000 in cash, and a tax invoice sealed by the HCM City Tax Bureau.

See the name and address of the taxpayer on the invoice, Dung called the 1080 switchboard to ask for the payer’s phone number but failed. The man contacted the HCM City Tax Bureau to ask for the contact of the taxpayer.

One day later, a couple from Hue City who lost the bag visited Dung’s house to receive their lost property.

“Honestly, I would never have so much property, even if I worked hard for the whole life. But when I thought of the troubles suffered by the owner, I decided to give it back to them. After returning the property, I was happy and peaceful,” he said.

Dung has been awarded the title “Traffic Knight” to honor his good deed.
