The Ministry has required the department to tighten control over the granting of taxi licences and submit a report on the matter to the ministry before July 31.
Statistics have shown that nearly 120 taxi enterprises, with around 17,000 registered cabs, were currently operating in the capital city. Many taxi drivers display certificates showing they have passed Department of Transport inspections near the front door of the vehicle.
From the beginning of the year until May, inspectors suspended nearly 50 taxis for licensing violations such as breaking rules on display of price lists and requirements on radio equipment. Violators included taxis from well known companies such as Huong Lua Trading Co, Ltd, Van Xuan JSC, Indochina Petroleum Transportation JSC (Petroleum Taxi), Star International Trade and Tourism Development JSC (Vic) and Mai Linh Northern Central (MNC).
