The southern province of Tay Ninh is organizing its first festival for banh trang phoi suong (a type of rice paper exposed to morning dew), a specialty of Trang Bang Town in the province, Tuoi Tre newspaper reports.
Taking place at Trang Bang’s stadium until April 12, the festival introduces the process of making rice paper, which has been recognized as a national intangible heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The event features 200 stalls of 120 enterprises selling and presenting food and tourism products. Some stalls show skills and techniques of rice paper production and offer visitors a range of dishes made from rice paper.
The festival is displaying the biggest rice paper cake with a diameter of 1-1.2 meters. Those artisans involved in making the cake have registered their product for a Vietnam Guinness record.
Duong Van Phong, director of the province’s culture and sports department, said: “The festival is among the activities to celebrate the 180th anniversary of Tay Ninh Province, and a link between producers and tourism firms, hotels and restaurants.”
The art of rice paper making was featured in a film produced by U.S. firm ZPZ Communication and broadcast on two popular U.S. television channels – PBS and National Geographic.
