* VN pushes ties with Sierra Leone

Viet Nam hopes to increase its ties with Sierra Leone through visits between various level leaders from the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu made the statement at a meeting with her counter part, Ali Mansaray, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Forestry yesterday in Ha Noi.

Both sides agreed to prioritise areas of trade on agricultural products and exchange expert advice and research on agricultural technology.

The two officials approved a plan to build an experimental rice breed centre in Sierra Leone.

Thu said Viet Nam would send five agriculture and aqua-culture experts to Sierra Leone in August to research the possibility of rice and seafood production and collaboration.

Mansaray said that his country is also willing to receive skilled workers or farmers from Viet Nam to train local people. Sierra Leone was also willing to rent out land to Viet Nam to farm and sell products to locals or export them to the European Union, he said.

Export taxes from Sierra Leone to the EU equals 0 and transporting distance from Sierra Leone to the market is only about half of the distance from Viet Nam.
