VietNamNet Bridge – While writing on the blackboard, three first-grade students and their teacher were hit on their heads by plaster falling from the ceiling. One male student was seriously injured, had to undergone a brain surgery.




On October 1, teacher Nguyen Thi Huong of Da Ton Primary School, Gia Lam District, Hanoi, was lecturing while three students were writing on the blackboard when suddenly plaster fell from the ceiling.

After receiving first aid at Viet Duc Hospital, student Do Dinh Hieu was transferred to the Post Office Hospital for a brain surgery.

Hieu’s mother, Nguyen Thi Dao, 28, said after the surgery, Hieu was very weak. He still had fever and one arm could not move. Dao's family is one of the poorest in her commune. The family did not know how to earn enough money to pay hospital fee for their son.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Duc Dien, Chairman of Da Ton Commune People's Committee of, said: "This is the objective incident, nothing unfortunate, just the ceiling falling and nobody would want this to happen."




The official said the classroom was built in 1992 and it had just been newly revised when the accident happened.

As soon as the incident occured, the commune authorities asked the investor to make a report and re-build the entire building because the quality was not guaranteed.

The authorities are clarifying the causes, as well as the responsibilities of the relevant units.

A teacher said that the classroom where the accident occurred is one of the classrooms which are in the process of repair. The repair was unfinished but it was already put into use.
