Teachers will take part in two programs: a 24-hour course on STEM teaching methods in English and a 40-hour course on AI teaching aligned with global standards. Both aim to provide a solid knowledge base, modern pedagogical skills, and practical experience, enabling teachers to confidently integrate STEM into English lessons and introduce AI in schools, thereby improving education quality.
Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, explained that with rising public expectations, the education sector must continuously innovate and even lead in some areas. Regarding AI teaching, he emphasized the need to start with teacher training colleges to build a sufficient teaching workforce. While some schools in the city have piloted AI lessons, these efforts remain limited. The department hopes to institutionalize AI teaching with systematic investment and properly trained teachers.
He also noted that it is not feasible to roll out AI training across all 3,500 schools in the city at once. Instead, the program will begin in selected schools deemed ready, before gradually expanding. The goal is to ensure that teachers not only have passion but also the foundation to teach students effectively, ensuring equal access to AI education for both central and remote schools.
Pham Hoang Quan, President of Saigon University, which will collaborate with organizations such as Google to design curricula and training programs, highlighted the city’s proactive approach. He recalled that when Vietnam had 63 provinces, Ho Chi Minh City was the only locality to prepare dedicated science teachers for natural science education, instead of assigning physics, chemistry, and biology teachers separately. With AI and STEM in English, the key goal is to train high-quality teachers and administrators to meet urgent demands for STEM and AI instruction in the new era.
The programs are designed with modern, advanced content aligned with Ministry of Education and Training regulations, ensuring participants can easily absorb and apply the knowledge.
