VietNamNet Bridge – Hosts Becamex Binh Duong will slug it out against rival Vietnamese club Sai Gon Xuan Thanh in the semifinals of the BTV Binh Duong international football tournament today, Oct 13.
At Go Dau Stadium, Binh Duong, who have won the tournament three times, are favourites against newcomers SGXT.
Besides, Binh Duong are in good form after bouncing back strongly from their 1-3 loss to SC Villa of Uganda in the opener to beat MSK Zilina of Slovakia 2-0 and Vicem Hai Phong 3-1 to finish second in group A with six points.
SGXT's path to the semifinals was less impressive with two drawn games against SHB Da Nang and Brazil's Matsubara and a narrow win over India's East Bengal.
The other semifinal is between the Ugandan and Brazilian teams.
SC Villa appear to be the leading contender for the title after topping group A with a 1-0 win over MSK Zilina and a 1-1 draw with Hai Phong after the easy opening win against Binh Duong.
Matsubara, who have played six times in the tournament since 2004, winning in 2007, finished second in group B with five points after drawing with Vietnamese clubs SHB Da Nang and Sai Gon Xuan Thanh and beating the Indian team.
The annual tournament has been organised since 2000, with Binh Duong winning it three times.
