Fed up with his grandmother's constant scolding for staying out late and neglecting his studies, Nguyen Chu Thanh Tu hired his friend for around 210 USD (5 million VND) to murder her and then set their house on fire.

On the afternoon of March 20, the Hung Yen Provincial Police reported that the Criminal Investigation Agency had detained Nguyen Chu Thanh Tu (born 2009, residing in Da Hoa Village, Binh Minh Commune, Khoai Chau District, Hung Yen Province) and Le Gia Bao (born 2010, residing in Phuoc Hiep Street, Gia Dinh Ward, Trang Bang Town, Tay Ninh Province) for the crime of murder.
Around 6:00 a.m. on March 19, local residents reported a fire at the home of N.T.L. (born 1952, residing in Da Hoa Village). Police and residents rushed to extinguish the blaze. During the response, officers found Mrs. L. deceased in a pond behind the house, her body bearing multiple wounds believed to be caused by a sharp object. Authorities immediately suspected foul play.
Following the discovery, the provincial police launched an investigation, mobilizing forces and employing professional measures to track down the suspects. Within just 10 hours, officers apprehended Nguyen Chu Thanh Tu and Le Gia Bao.
According to the investigation, Tu frequently faced reprimands from his grandmother for his poor academic performance and late-night outings. Angered and resentful, he plotted to kill her. Tu contacted Bao, whom he had met through online gaming, offering 5 million VND (about 210 USD) to help carry out the murder. He promised to cover all travel and food expenses.
At around 3:30 a.m. on March 19, Bao arrived at the victim’s house to meet Tu. Tu handed Bao a knife while arming himself with another. The two then climbed over the wall and entered the kitchen. Tu made a noise to wake his grandmother, luring her downstairs, giving Bao the opportunity to attack.
After ensuring she was motionless, Tu took 180,000 VND (about 8 USD) from her belongings. They then dragged her body to the pond behind the house and submerged it. After Bao fled, Tu remained at the house and set the kitchen and living area on fire to destroy evidence.
Hung Yen Police continue to investigate the incident to clarify further details.
