VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese teenagers Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien are set to begin an extensive training programme in the US from next year, an official from the Viet Nam Aquatic Sports Association (VASA) said yesterday, Nov 30.

Phuoc, 18, who won gold in the men's 100m freestyle and the 100m butterfly and set a new Southeast Asian (SEA) Games record of 53.07sec in the men's 100m butterfly, hopes to shine at the 2012 London Olympics.

Vien, 15, also won a silver medal in the women's 400m medley and a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke at the SEA Games.

"Phuoc and Vien are included in the association's training plan for future stars," said VASA's chief officer Nguyen Thu Hang. "They showed off their power with successes at the SEA Games in Indonesia earlier this month. The training session in the US will provide good preparation for them ahead of the Olympic Games next year.

"However, we have yet to fix the schedule for their training in Florida, in the US. The association also plans to send at least five or six swimmers to the US from February."

Earlier this year the two teenagers were sent to train in Kunming, China in a one-year training programme.
