Viettel High Tech and Viettel Network have deployed the IMS (integrated management system) for 4G/5G networks.
IMS is one of the important components of the telecommunication network layers, providing voice calling service with superior advantages over voice services on 3G networks.
The call setup time is 3 times faster, while the call quality meets HD call standards, and the battery consumption of terminals is 30-50 percent lower when making calls.
This is the last product of the entire ecosystem of telecommunication network products that Viettel developed on the networks of Vietnamese network operators.
The event marks an important milestone for Viettel completing its strategy on Vietnamizing the telecommunication network, ensuring information security.
The telecom carrier many years ago began pursuing a strategy of replacing imported equipment step by step and using a 100 percent self-made telecommunication core network system.
Prior to that, Viettel succeeded in integrating self-developed telecom equipment products such as OCS (origin calculation system), SMSC (short message service center), PCRF (Policy and Charging Rule Function) and CRBT (caller ring back tone) in the network.
Some Make-in-Vietnam core network products now account for a large proportion (over 50 percent) of its network, such as MSC (mobile switching center), EPC (Evolved Packet Core), Site Router and eNodeB.
Regarding the switchboard for 4G/5G which has just been put into use, R&D began in 2018.
During the process, Viettel’s engineers developed the product with standards of 3GPP (the 3rd Generation Partnership Project). The system has been deployed based on the most advanced technology today which allows it to be easily integrated into the network.
By using the IMS developed by Viettel instead of imported products, 50 percent of cost can be saved. Also, Viettel can master the technology and product, and it doesn’t rely on third parties. The telco will also be more flexible in upgrading new service packages to satisfy customers’ diverse demands.
According to Nguyen Vu Ha, CEO of Viettel High Tech, Viettel has advantages over its foreign rivals as it is both the mobile network operator and the developer of telecom products.
“The use of Make-in-Vietnam equipment helps save foreign currencies for the country, optimize investment and operation costs. This is also the premise showing that Vietnam’s products now can go on par with the world’s technologies, ready for 5G commercialization,” Ha said.
Telecommunication equipment manufactured by Viettel will also be available in some countries like Cambodia, Laos, Mozambique and Peru in 2023.
