Telecom service providers in Viet Nam attracted 1.94 million new telephone subscribers during the first two months of the year, an increase of 34.1 per cent over the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Posts and Communications, the figure includes more than 1.93 million mobile phone subscribers and 4,900 landline subscribers.

The total number of telephone subscriptions in Viet Nam rose to 134.2 million by the end of February 2012, including 119 million mobile phone subscriptions, up 4.3 per cent year on year, and 15.3 million landline subscriptions, down 1.4 per cent over same period last year.

Meanwhile, the country has 4.3 million broadband internet subscriptions and 32.6 million internet users by the end of February, up 18.2 per cent and 18.4 per cent year on year.

The ministry said the country's post and telecom services sector posted an estimated revenue of VND22.1 trillion (US$1.06 billion) in the first two months, an increase of 21.4 per cent over the corresponding period in 2011.

The domestic post and telecom industry last year obtained total revenues of VNe167.1 trillion (US$7.95 billion), up 19.3 per cent against the figures of 2010.
