The Ministry of Transport issued the decision on Tuesday afternoon at a meeting attended by the Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC).

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Cong, was held after a petrol tanker crashed into a car on the bridge in the direction on September 5.

The bridge has been temporarily closed causing traffic disruption.

The 265km expressway runs from Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport through the provinces of Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai.

Since it opened in September 2014, it has reduced travel time from Hanoi to Lao Cai to 3.5 hours, and eased traffic on national highways 2, 2B, 32C and 70.

The route is part of the infrastructure development project under China’s Kunming-Hanoi-Hai Phong Economic Corridor.
