VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on December 30 announced the top ten cultural, sports and tourism events of the year, selected by journalists.

 

1. Activities to celebrate big anniversaries in 2010, especially art shows to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 35th country’s unification, the 120th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the 65th August Revolution and National Day, etc.

 

2. Activities to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. The most outstanding activity was the parade in the morning of October 10 at the Ba Dinh Square.

 

3. UNESCO recognized the Thang Long Royal Citadel, the Saint Giong Festival, 82 stone steles at the Temple of Literature as World Heritages.

 

4. Successful organization of cultural activities to promote the images of Vietnam overseas: Vietnam Day at Expo Shanghai 2010, Vietnam Cultural Weeks in Mexico, Germany, Belgium and Cambodia; Vietnam Tourism and Cultural Festival in South Korea, Japan; Vietnam Days in Russia, China and India.

 

5. International cultural and sports events that were held in Vietnam for the first time: International Photo Exhibition, Vietnam International Film Festival, International Piano Competition, Miss Earth pageant, 1000th Thang Long-Hanoi Football Cup, etc.

 

6. The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored the famous Vietnamese movie director Dang Nhat Minh.

 

7. Successfully organizing the 6th Sports and Physical Training Games.

 

8. Vietnam won 33 medals at the 16th Asian Games. For the first time, Vietnam won medals in five sport categories. Vietnam also won 17 medals at the Asian Games for the Disabled, ranking 11th out of 42 countries.

 

9. Vietnam welcomed the five millionth foreign visitor.

 

10. The 2010program to promote tourism, titled “Vietnam – Your Destination”.
