Doctor Le Hoang Minh, director of the HCM City Tumor Hospital, and doctor Bui Chi Viet, chief of the Surgery Ward directly examined the patient and his relatives. Doctors detected that Hai’s mother has a small tumor of the same kind with Hai’s, but the tumor has not developed in many years.

Doctor Viet said that Hai contracts a disease called Von Reckling Hausen, which is a hereditary disorder with the rate of 1/3,000 people. He said perhaps Hai’s ancestors of two or three generations ago contracted this disease. In the family, only Hai and his mother have the tumor.

Hai will go to the HCM City Tumor Hospital for making necessary tests before being operated several times. The hospital’s doctor said that the patient will be exempted from any fee.

Two years ago, the HCM City Tumor Hospital cut off a 20 kilo tumor for a patient. However, Hai’s tumor is up to 80 kilo, which causes hunchback and ilium deformation. Doctors worried that surgeries may affect Hai’s cardiovascular system.

Hai has been living with this tumor for 27 years.
