At 3pm that day, a big hole suddenly appeared in front of the three-story building of the HCM City People's Administrative Court on Le Thanh Ton Road, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1. Dozens of officials working in the buildings hurriedly ran away, without carrying documents with them.

"We were attending trials inside the building so we did not know anything until a guard ran into the building and shouting that it was collapsing. People fled out and saw a huge hole was formed in front of the building," a court official recalled.

Witnesses said that a group of construction workers of the building of the Quoc Cuong Lien A JSC, which is next to the court headquarters detected soil erosion. They shouted to inform court officers but these people could not hear the warnings. These workers threw stones at the glass window to signal the people.

The hole is about 10m2 in area and 2m depth. Another hole of 3sq.m also appeared inside the court building. Le Thanh Ton Road was quickly blocked. Dozens of police and rescue workers were present to help court officers to take the furniture and documents out.

It is determined that the holes were created under the impacts of construction activities of the building of Quoc Cuong Lien A JSC.

Two days after the incident, the building of the HCM City People’s Administrative Court was demolished to ensure safety for staff and people around.

A court official said that the Quoc Cuong Lien A JSC has hired a new office for the court. The new building will be built and the Quoc Cuong Lien A JSC will have to pay compensation.
