VietNamNet Bridge - Grandmaster Le Quang Liem of Vietnam will surely face harsh challenges in the last two rounds at the Sparkassen Chess Meeting in Dortmund, Germany when he takes on two rivals in the top group competing for the title this year.

Le Quang Liem gets another tie at Sparkassen

 


After sharing point with the world's number 5 and leader Wladimir Kramnik of Russia following a tie yesterday in the eighth round, Liem pockets 4.5 points and remains at second place after the Russian with 6.5 points.

 

Liem, the world number 27 with an Elo rating of 2,715, will take on grandmasters Ruslan Ponomariov of Ukraine, No.10, and Anish Giri of the Netherlands (No. 40) who follow him with 4 points each.

 

So far, Liem has been unbeaten at the event with a win and seven draws.

 

The 8th round saw Ponomariov the sole winner over Nakamura while all four remainders accepting ties.

 

The tournament in Dortmund has six world-class players competing for a total of ten rounds on a double round robin format.
