Thailand's National Anti- Corruption Commission (NACC) said Thursday that the case in which caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was charged with dereliction of duty would be wrapped up in months.

Yingluck has been given 15 days to prepare her clarification on the charges, NACC member Vichai Vivitsevi was quoted as saying by MCOT, a state-owned broadcasting group.

While on an inspection trip to the northeastern province of Chiang Mai, Yingluck on Thursday did not acknowledge in person the charges of negligence of duty in connection with the rice subsidy scheme, but sent her lawyers to the NACC instead.

Yingluck could extend the 15-day deadline if she needs more witnesses or evidence to prepare her explanation, Vichai said.

Yingluck's legal team will discuss whether she will make clarification with the NACC in person or present it in writing, the prime minister's lawyer Noravich Klalaeng was quoted as saying.
