Chaimongkol Suracha

Suracha was arrested at the Tan Son Nhat Airport in the city when entering Viet Nam on October 1, 2012. Nearly 2kg of cocaine were found hidden in two albums in her luggage.

She said that she had made the acquaintance of two Africans called Fosta and Mieare over the Internet. They said they would give her a job at a company specialising in automobile exports in Viet Nam.

On 12 August 2012, Suracha was given a ticket to Brazil and told she could enjoy a visit to the South American nation before going to Viet Nam.

On 28 September, Suracha was taken to a supermarket in Brazil to buy a suitcase and some personal belongings.

She was also told to bring two albums to Viet Nam for the boss of the automobile firm.

Suracha told Vietnamese officials she did not know what the albums contained.

However, based on the evidence of Suracha's collaboration with the African drug traffickers, prosecutors argued the Thai woman must be held responsible for the drugs she brought to Viet Nam.

The court agreed and sentenced her to death.
