VietNamNet Bridge – A set of nude photos titled "Steps of Time" and the achievements of photographer Thai Phien have been honored by the Gold Excellence Artist Award of Vietnam Association of Photographic Artist.

This is the highest title granted to a photographer by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists. The title is granted annually since 2004.

This year the title was given to five photographers, including Ho My Sinh, Nguyen Tat Be, Ngo Quang Phuc, Hoang Thach Van and Nguyen Thai Phien.

The title is granted based on the achievement of artists and a set of photos sent to the evaluation council.

Thai Phien submitted his “Steps of Time” nude photo set. Previously, nude photos were a taboo in Vietnam.

Thai Phine’s exhibition of nude photos were canceled several times and his nude photo books were not admitted to many book awards.

However, “Steps of Time” won the heart of members of the evaluation council for its artistic value.

This set of black-and-white nude photos consists of 15 pieces, showing the change over time of the woman. The author said that in addition to describing the beauty of women, he wanted to send a message about the change of people over time.

Thai Phien’s victory is considered a bell signaling a change in the perception of photography in Vietnam.
