While receiving Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, PM Yingluck said Thailand wants to strengthen close cooperation with its neighbouring countries for security and development in the region.

She expressed pleasure at the fine development of Thailand-Vietnam relations through regular exchanges of high-level delegations.

She welcomed Ty’s visit which she said will foster relations between the two countries’ armies.

Sen. Lieu. Gen. Ty, who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, praised the Thai government’s efforts in dealing with the consequences of last year’s floods.

He said Yingluck’s visit last year helped promote relations between the two armies, especially in information sharing, exchange of army delegations, training, and joint patrols at sea by the two countries’ navies.

He briefed his host on the results of talks between the two armies during which they discussed ways to increase joint patrols and support flood victims, primarily fishermen living in coastal areas, to help them stabilise their lives.

Sen. Lieu. Gen. Ty began a four-day visit to Thailand on February 23 at the invitation of General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army.
