During the event, the organizers presented the award to the Dong Do Technical and Commercial Limited Company, which was responsible for the construction of the tower.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Thang Van Phuc, Chairman of the Vietnam Record Holders Association, acknowledged the contributions of Dong Do Technical and Commercial Limited Company and record holder Tran Van Toan. Dr. Phuc highlighted the cultural significance of the Than Nong Tower as a pinnacle of creativity in agricultural heritage and expressed his hope that the company will continue to promote the value of this unique structure.
The Than Nong Tower, a symbol of the deity of wet rice cultivation, is constructed from 1,012 stone mortars arranged around a reinforced concrete core. Standing 15 meters tall and divided into five levels, the tower is designed in the shape of a vertical rice grain.
At its peak, the tower is adorned with a model of the Than Nong constellation, featuring 15 stars illuminated by multicolored LED lights visible at night. The tower has become a distinctive attraction in Bac Ninh, serving both as a landmark and as part of an educational model for cultural heritage experiences.
Tran Van Toan, the creator of the tower, explained that in today’s modern agricultural landscape, many traditional stone tools, such as mortars and grain mills, have been discarded.
Driven by a passion for preserving cultural heritage, he began collecting stone mortars to create a display that would safeguard the cultural traditions of rural areas, the agricultural heritage, and the memories of a bygone era in Vietnam’s northern countryside.
The first stone mortar and rice culture exhibit in Bac Ninh aims to promote sustainable tourism and cultural experiences, contributing to the local economy while preserving and celebrating the cultural legacy of the Kinh Bac region and its agricultural history.
Previously, on May 20, 2023, the Vietnam Record Holders Association awarded the Vietnam Record for the largest rice grain-shaped stone mortar tower to Than Nong Tower. On November 30, VietKings presented the tower with the Asian Record for the largest rice grain structure in Asia.
